We are exploring how the size of the reaction network affects the ignition and propagation of the helium detonation in the double detonation model of Type Ia supernovae using Castro and pynucastro.

Double Detonation Models of Type Ia Supernovae

We are modeling the double detonation scenario for SN Ia. Here, a He detonation begins in the accreted layer on a sub-Chandrasekhar mass white dwarf, driving a compression wave inward that ignites a second, C detonation near the center.
